J. Brodzinski’s Living Room
My friend Jeffrey bought a home and wanted a quick makeover for his living room; he was hosting a party for some friends and wanted his new space to feel warm, inviting, and friendly – just like Jeffrey! With a limited budget of under $500 and just one day to complete the project, we rolled up our sleeves and went to work on a site unseen space; I think you’ll like the results!
Here’s what you saw when you first walked in the door: another door! This is one of the classic ‘shot-gun’ style house in South City St. Louis.
We tried to detract from ‘another door’ by placing furniture near the second entrance and adding some long flowing curtains to the window on the left.
This was just a big wall with a small table in the middle. It felt awkward and out of place all alone in that large space.
We painted the walls a golden green & added a chair, a rug, a lamp and some art; the room is transformed into a comfortable and warm space to entertain!
Todd’s chaise had to stay; non-negotiable. To be fair, the current furnishings were a blend of what Jeffrey had & what Todd brought with him when they moved in together.
Now the chaise doesn’t seem so big when it’s next to other complimentary pieces; it also fades to the background with the rug and softer lighting from behind.
The big chaise and big couch hogged all the attention in the room; with no art or color in a room full of neutral tones, only the size of the pieces is what was noticed.
Warming up the room with the new paint color, the softer lighting, a small piece of art, and a rug, the large seating arrangement is less obvious visually.
Here’s another perspective to see what I mean about his big wall and the large seats; they really dominate the already bland room.
Just add color, art, floor and window treatments, and pillows and Viola! Warmth, comfort, and texture for a room to enjoy and entertain in!
Without any window treatments, the room definitely seemed cold...
...but we changed that with rich chocolate brown curtains that have a shiny, taffeta effect. This little bit of depth and texture speaks volumes for the room!
Here’s the opposite wall showing the door as you enter; no, Jeffrey did not paint the diamonds that way. He didn’t like them either...
So to fix that little problem we used some of the leftover wall paint to tie the door into the room; we added the rich brown curtains to this wall as well.
Say ‘HI!’ to Jeffery!
And say ‘HELLOOOO, GORGEOUS!’ to his new living room! In just 9 hours, for under $500, we transformed his space into exactly what he wanted! Enjoy, J. Bro!
